🐱 Spaying isn’t just about preventing kittens — it can protect your cat’s health, too.
Here are a few BIG reasons we recommend spaying female cats:
🩷 Lower risk of mammary cancer
Mammary tumors in cats are especially concerning because 80–90% are malignant. Spaying early dramatically reduces the risk—cats spayed before 6 months have been reported to have about a 91% lower risk of developing mammary tumors.
🚨 Prevents pyometra
A pyometra is a serious bacterial infection of the uterus where the uterus can essentially fill with infected fluid/pus. Cats can become very sick very quickly, and treatment often requires emergency surgery. Spaying removes the reproductive organs involved and prevents this potentially life-threatening condition.
🐾 Cats are induced ovulators — wait, what?!
Unlike humans, cats typically ovulate in response to mating. If they don’t mate and ovulate, they can return to heat repeatedly during breeding season. That’s why an intact female cat may seem like she is constantly going into heat—yowling, rolling, rubbing, trying to escape, and attracting every neighborhood tomcat. 😹

We are SO excited to officially have Dr. Nelson joining our team! 🎉 She’s an incredible addition to our CityVet family, and we can’t wait for all of you (and your pets!) to get to know her.
Dr. Sarah Nelson graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2016 and moved to Arizona in 2017. She loves helping pets in all stages of life, from new kittens to senior dogs! She values low-stress vet visits and compassionate client communication, and has special interests in feline medicine, internal medicine, and abdominal ultrasound. Outside of work she enjoys hiking, yoga, reading, travel, and spending time with her husband, cat (Wally) and dog (Audrey).

An estimated 10–20% of dogs are affected by allergies, and they can show up in more ways than just an occasional itch.
Some of the most common culprits include:
🌾 Environmental allergies — pollen, grasses, dust mites & mold
