Dr. Pribula is exceptional. She does such a thorough job assessing our animals and determining the best course of care. She asks thoughtful questions, takes the time to listen, and has an incredible bedside manner. It is such a relief to know that our precious pets are receiving care from someone we trust so completely. Dr. Johnson and Dr. Melch have also provided exceptional care and communication, and we are so thankful for each of them.
The entire staff at this location is wonderful. Andrea and Courtney are amazing technicians who are incredibly professional, compassionate, and exceptional at what they do. Honestly, I have yet to meet a technician at this location who wasn’t kind, caring, and professional.
Dakota, Taylor, and the rest of the front desk team also deserve so much recognition. They always make us feel welcome and do such a fabulous job keeping everything organized, answering questions, and helping with scheduling.

The months of July and August
were difficult for my Bentley.
I went to his regular vet, pleading for help but all I received was creams and non-effective medications. Absolutely no diagnosis from his long time veterinarian.
Bentley was getting worse. I knew what had to be done.
I went to City Vets, without an appointment. Got out of my car and a wonderful staff member help me carry Bentley. He’s just a little one into their special room.
Dr. Andrew Raskin, greeted me with all the compassion of a dear friend. He looked at Bentley and confirmed my thoughts.
There were dark spots all over his body.
Without hesitation Dr. Raskin came into the room with the needle. He stepped down to Bentley’s level. My beloved Bentley licked the doctor’s nose, as if to say it was okay.
Within seconds it was over. But, you never really get over losing your loved one.
To all the pet parents, I understand your desperation to find a cure. You try everything to save them. But, it is truly in God’s hands.
But, when you have a veterinarian like Dr Raskin you know your pet will be taken care of. They handle the cremation, they placed his ashes in a beautifully carved box with his name on it.
Please go see Dr Raskin. Without question he’s a finest veterinarian I’ve ever met.

We cannot say enough wonderful things about City Vet in Richardson and the incredible care they’ve given all of our fur babies. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with kindness, compassion, and a genuine love for animals that you can truly feel.
They took amazing care of Bruno, our little guy who needed dental extractions and a sedated grooming. The team made sure he was comfortable, safe, and well cared for every step of the way, and kept us informed so we never had to worry.
When our sweet Gracie had an emergency and required surgery for a blockage, City Vet went above and beyond. Dr. Timmerman and staff gave around-the-clock care, attention, and communication during such a scary time meant everything to us. We are forever grateful for the dedication and love they showed her.
Shortly after all that our cat had an abscess and needed close monitoring and treatment while we had to be out of town. City Vet was incredibly accommodating, watching her closely and making sure she received exactly the care she needed. It gave us such peace of mind knowing she was in such capable and loving hands.
They also helped our Golden today… we just switched her from her previous vet to now City Vet. Dr Timmerman has given some helpful suggestions to aid with her chronic ear infections.
Every single visit, we are reminded that this is a place where people truly care..not just about the animals, but about the families who love them. The entire staff is welcoming, compassionate, and professional, and we never feel rushed or dismissed.

I just wanted to give a huge shoutout to Roy & Brooke for taking such incredible care of my baby, Dio! They truly went above and beyond while he was boarded for a few nights. I received multiple updates along with the sweetest pictures, which gave me so much peace of mind while I was away.

Hank visited us today for swelling following his recent neuter, and while we took his recovery seriously, Hank took his new fashion accessories VERY seriously. 😂
Our team performed laser therapy as part of his treatment plan to help support comfort and healing.
Naturally, we also had to document the difference between our smallest and largest patient safety goggles. Because veterinary medicine is never one-size-fits-all. 🥽🐾
A little post-op reminder: Some mild swelling can occur after surgery, but significant, worsening, or painful swelling should always be evaluated by your veterinarian.

The first was an emergency surgery to remove numerous bladder stones that were blocking his ability to urinate. The poor dog could barely pee for days.
The second incident happened recently. Bo stopped eating, lost 18 pounds in two weeks, and became so weak he could barely support himself to go to the bathroom. He even began falling over onto his side. We were horrified, we truly thought this might be the end.
Dr. Tucker wasn’t available, but Dr. Brajae Brazil was able to see us right away. This is where CityVet showed their true character. We are self‑employed and going through very hard times financially, yet they put the patient first, ahead of profit. They helped us figure out strategic ways to get the medications Bo needed for his severe infection. Then the manager, Denise, stepped in and helped us obtain the rest of the medication at a significant discount.
All I can say is: I cried with gratitude.
Update on Bo: He is eating a lot now! He’s still weak, but he’s slowly gaining back his muscle mass and most importantly… he’s alive — and improving every day.

Dr. Brazil is absolutely great. She gave us very detailed instructions before the surgery and kept me updated throughout every step. I happened to miss one of her calls, but she left a very thorough voicemail, which I really appreciated.
I had mentioned my concerns about my cat’s kidney health before the surgery. I really appreciated that Dr. Brazil took the time to review the blood test results and tell us to confirm everything was fine. It was a very considerate gesture.
The surgery went well, and my cat was active and was able to play with us and drink as soon as we got home. I also love how transparent their pricing is. The final bill was less than the original quote because the doctor assessed that my cat didn’t need certain treatment – she made sure the medication was tailored exactly to my cat’s situation. They also explained to my husband throughly when he picked the cat up. Highly recommended!

I appreciate how transparent they are about prices and estimates. More than that, they go out of their way to make my pets feel comfortable. They also offer grooming which is super convenient for my Pyrenees mix who receives sedatives (prescribed by Cityvet) for anxiety. Meet our patient of the week, Peach! 🍑
Sweet little Peach has had a bit of an adventurous start to life – she’s contracted Giardia multiple times, including a significant enough illness to need hospitalization, had a hypoglycemic seizure scare, and had kennel cough.
Peach was also recently spayed, and had 16 baby teeth removed! She did great!
We’re hoping there’s only fun adventures ahead!

Meet our patient of the week, Samantha!
Samantha is 16 years old and living with advanced stage chronic kidney disease. Her very dedicated owner provides regular treatment for hydration, hypertension control, and phosphorus control. These treatments are preserving kidney function and prolonging Samantha’s life, and she’s doing fantastically for a cat with her diagnoses. We even documented weight gain at her most recent visit, not very common for kitties with her age and disease.

Meet our patient of the week, Sinclair!
Sinclair is a young cat that presented with acute vomiting. Radiographs revealed a very large bladder. Interestingly, he didn’t have abnormal urinary symptoms at home. Direct bladder palpation induced pain and unsuccessful attempts to urinate.
He was diagnosed with a urethral obstruction, and luckily it was caught early – he had no signs of kidney damage or electrolyte disturbances. He was anesthetized to pass a urinary catheter to de-obstruct his urethra; a plug of crystalline grit was obstructing his distal urethra. He was hospitalized to maintain his urinary catheter and treat dehydration.
Sinclair made a quick recovery and is doing well! He was the sweetest patient.

Meet our patient of the week, River Lee!
He came to us in June with an inflamed mass on one of his paws. It was painful to walk on and starting to ulcerate from pressure.
Surgery recovery wasn’t his favorite – he needed a bandage to cover the paw and was on exercise restriction until healed. Not to be deterred, he did manage to get in the pool once against doctor orders and needed another bandage change 😅.
After the all clear, he got back to swimming in the pool he loves! Now 3 months later, he’s happy as can be and 8 lbs slimmer from all that exercise! The removed growth was diagnosed as a sarcoma, so we are monitoring closely, and pleased to see no signs of recurrence!

Meet our patient of the week, Ruby!
She presented in June for an acute hind limb lameness. After 2 weeks of conservative treatment, her limp wasn’t any better, and joint exam showed concerns for instability of her right knee.
Radiographs showed joint subluxation consistent with a cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) tear – this is comparable to a human tearing their ACL. Ouch! Unfortunately this is actually a common injury in dogs, usually due to degenerative disease, but sometimes caused by trauma alone.
Ruby was referred to a specialist surgeon at Arista and had a TPLO surgery with a metal implant to correct the instability. She’s now about 2 months into recovery and rehab and doing great, getting back to her normal self and able to run free again!

Meet our patient of the week Link! He’s the sweetest cat you’ll meet.
Link came to us for vomiting and loss of appetite. Radiographs showed intestines obstructed by foreign material. Surgery that day removed a hair tie. Link is on the mend after surgery and getting back to his normal self! We hope he learns to eat food only from here on out!

Meet our patient of the week Lizzie! She’s a delightful dog! ❤️
Lizzie presented with acute illness last week. Prompt evaluation and diagnostics revealed a bleeding mass on her spleen. She had emergency surgery to remove the organ (the mass was 11cm wide!), and was hospitalized afterwards to treat her blood loss and a common post-operative arrhythmia.
Lizzie is doing great this week, and our whole team was overjoyed to learn her biopsy report came back with great news – her mass is benign with no signs of cancer! 🎉

How do you stop a cat from scratching the carpet? Redirect the scratching; don’t punish it. Scratching is natural: it keeps claws healthy, marks territory, and stretches muscles.
– Offer a better place to scratch. Put sturdy sisal posts or cardboard scratchers right next to your cat’s favorite carpet spots. Choose a post that’s stable and tall enough for a full stretch.
– Protect problem areas. Doorways, rugs, and carpet edges are common targets. Cover them with secure mats, carpet protectors, or double-sided tape.
– Reward good scratching habits. When your cat starts on the carpet, gently guide them to a scratcher. Reward them right away with treats or praise.
Is the scratching new, excessive, or not stopping even with consistent training? Talk to your local CityVet veterinarian! It can sometimes point to stress, anxiety, or another underlying issue.

Whether it’s a quick trip to the park or a weekend road trip, your dog deserves the same protection you do. A few simple steps can make every ride safer:
– Use a harness, never a collar. A collar puts all the force on your dog’s neck. A well-fitted harness spreads it across the chest.
– Choose a crash-tested restraint. Look for a harness or carrier certified by the Center for Pet Safety.
– Keep your dog in the back seat. Front airbags are designed for adult humans and can seriously injure a pet.
New to car restraints? Start with short drives so your dog gets used to the gear before your next big adventure.

Which fall plants are toxic to dogs and cats?
Fall decor is fun, but some seasonal plants can make pets sick. Here are six to watch for:
– Pumpkins & gourds: Fresh, plain pumpkin is generally safe, but mold on a rotting pumpkin can be toxic.
– Oak leaves & acorns: They contain tannins that can cause vomiting and diarrhea. Acorns can also be a choking or blockage risk.
– Autumn crocus: Every part of the plant is toxic and can cause severe illness.
– Tulips: All parts are toxic, and the bulbs are the most dangerous.
– Chrysanthemums (mums): The flowers, leaves and stems can cause drooling, vomiting and skin irritation.
– Lilies: Every part of a true lily, including the pollen and vase water, can cause kidney failure in cats.
What should you do if your pet eats a toxic plant? Don’t wait for symptoms. Call your nearest CityVet or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435 right away, and bring a photo of the plant if you can.
