Hi everyone, Jasper here! Since I`m already rocking this pink backdrop from CityVet-Brushy Creek`s Grand Opening celebration last year, I thought I`d use my Pet of the Month spotlight to talk about something important for breeds like me: MDR1.
MDR1 is a genetic mutation found in some herding breeds that can make them sensitive to certain medications. Australian Shepherds, Collies, Shelties, and other herding breeds may carry this mutation, making it important to know before certain treatments are prescribed.
If you have a herding breed dog, ask us about MDR1 testing at your next visit! Knowledge is power—and it helps keep pups like me safe and healthy.

🎄🐾 Holiday Safety Reminder for Our Pets! 🐾🎄
With many holidays being celebrated over the next few weeks, it’s especially important to keep a close eye on our pets to make sure they don’t get into anything they shouldn’t.
🚫 Holiday Plants to Avoid
Common seasonal plants can be harmful if ingested, including:
• Lilies
• Mistletoe
• Poinsettias
• Holly
• Pine tree needles and sap
• Christmas cactus
These can cause irritation, vomiting, diarrhea, and in some cases more serious, life-threatening conditions.
🍽️ Holiday Foods to Keep Out of Reach
Foods such as turkey (especially dark meat), butter or fried dishes, stuffing, gravy, casseroles, and certain desserts can lead to vomiting and diarrhea. High-fat foods may also trigger pancreatitis.
⚠️ Toxic Foods — Seek Care Immediately
Uncooked bread dough, onions, raisins/grapes, xylitol, certain spices and oils (such as sage), chocolate (dark chocolate is the most toxic), and avocado pits are dangerous. If your pet ingests any of these, they should be seen as soon as possible.

A board-certified surgeon and graduate of Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, Dr. Williams brings 26 years of experience serving the veterinary community. His expertise in orthopedic and soft tissue surgery has helped countless pets, and their families, find relief and improved quality of life.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Williams enjoys time with his wife Michele of 34 years and their two boys in San Antonio ❤️
He is now working closely with Dr. D’Intino as we expand Synovetin treatments and surgical services at our Alamo Heights and Castle Hills locations.
