If you’re looking for a vet and are on the fence because you’re worried it may not be a good experience, this is the place to take your pet. No matter the outcome, you’ll definitely leave happy you chose this place over others when wanting the best for your pet!
Also, Dr. Effie does have experience and works with exotic pets, so if you’re looking for someone in that realm, she is definitely good to consider on that level as well!
Why does my dog snore? 🐾💤
Short answer: snoring happens when airflow gets partially blocked in your dog`s nose or throat during sleep, causing tissue to vibrate. It`s usually harmless — but not always.
Common causes:
Breed: flat-faced dogs like Pugs, Bulldogs & Boxers snore more due to shorter airways
Sleep position: snoozing on their back can block airflow
Weight & age: extra fat or looser throat muscles narrow the airway
Allergies: dust, pollen & smoke can irritate nasal passages
Medical issues: infections, respiratory problems, or sleep apnea
When to worry: sudden/louder snoring, labored breathing while awake, or snoring + coughing, discharge, or appetite changes.
Not sure if it`s normal? Book a visit, and we`ll help you (and your pup) sleep easy.

Those tiny teeth hurt more than they have any right to.
If your kitten is ambushing your ankles, they`re not being mean — they`re being a kitten.
Keep a wand toy within reach and swap it in the second they go for your hand. When play gets rough, stop and walk away — they learn fast that teeth end the fun. And watch for the tells that they`re overstimulated: tail flicking, ears back, pupils blown wide. That`s your cue to take a break.
If biting starts suddenly or only when you touch one spot, it could signal pain, and you should talk to your veterinarian.

If there`s no pet in our arms, that`s not us!
Is it healthy to snuggle with your pet?
Yes — for most people, cuddling with a healthy, parasite-free pet is safe and comes with real benefits. Close contact with pets has been linked to lower stress, reduced blood pressure, and stronger bonding for both of you. Snuggling can also help owners catch problems early: new lumps, hot spots, ear odor, or flinching at a touch are all worth checking with your veterinarian.

I appreciate how transparent they are about prices and estimates. More than that, they go out of their way to make my pets feel comfortable. They also offer grooming which is super convenient for my Pyrenees mix who receives sedatives (prescribed by Cityvet) for anxiety. I can one hundred percent trust that she will be safe and pampered there, and she always looks so cute after!

Today we had a grooming service done by Alex! She did such a great job! She heard my preferences and made it happen. Appa was happy to be there and he looked pawfect. I would definitely recommended their grooming services, ask for Alex!
Our dog is HIGH ANXIETY ; The entire staff & Dr. Ramano worked to calm him down, they were very attentive and knowledgeable. The Dr. & the assistant both took time answering our questions!
We are super excited about City Vet being our NEW vet !!!
So refreshing to find a vet and a business that I truly enjoy visiting!
Meet our patient of the week Lizzie! She’s a delightful dog! ❤️
Lizzie presented with acute illness last week. Prompt evaluation and diagnostics revealed a bleeding mass on her spleen. She had emergency surgery to remove the organ (the mass was 11cm wide!), and was hospitalized afterwards to treat her blood loss and a common post-operative arrhythmia.
Lizzie is doing great this week, and our whole team was overjoyed to learn her biopsy report came back with great news – her mass is benign with no signs of cancer! 🎉

Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) is the most common cardiomyopathy in dogs.
The disease results in an enlarged (dilated) heart due to heart muscle thinning and weakening, eventually leading to systolic dysfunction and congestive heart failure (CHF).
In cats with proper taurine levels, the disease is now very rare.
Common dog breeds affected include Dobermans, Boxers, Great Danes, Newfoundlands, Irish Wolfhounds, and Saint Bernards.
There is also a form of this disease linked to grain-free diets in dogs, with atypical breeds represented. Please use caution when feeding grain-free diets, and consult your veterinarian on nutrition recommendations.
Hereditary disease forms unfortunately have a poor prognosis since the primary disease state can’t be fixed. Nutritional-related disease forms carry a better prognosis, and can often be reversed with proper identification and treatment.

April is National Heartworm Awareness Month!
Heartworms are parasitic worms 🪱, spread by mosquitoes 🦟 , that can infect dogs 🐕 and cats 🐈and live in blood vessels in their heart🫀and lungs 🫁. Advanced infestations can cause serious cardiovascular or respiratory disease, and can cause permanent organ damage and even death.
5 things for pet owners to know about heartworm prevention:
1. Cats 🐈 can get heartworms too!
2. Dogs 🐕 can be exposed to heartworms year-round and indoors
3. Standard screening tests have a 6 month lag between exposure and a detectable infestation
4. Prevention is the easiest treatment
5. Prevention is the safest treatment

Continuing our series on the heart, today’s focus is HCM – hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. This is the most prevalent cardiac disease in cats!
The hallmark of this disease is thickened muscle in the left ventricle, which can lead to reduced chamber size and diastolic dysfunction, dynamic outflow tract obstruction and systolic dysfunction, and ultimately left atrial enlargement resulting in congestive heart failure or thromboembolism.
Many cases remain subclinical, however some cases have no warning signs before onset of severe adverse events!
Proper screening can help diagnose and manage the disease, and avoid risks such as anesthesia, IV fluid overload, and steroids.
After ruling out hyperthyroidism and hypertension, treatment considerations include:
1. Atenolol – a beta blocker used for rate control when outflow tract obstruction (LVOTO / HOCM) is present
2. Clopidogrel – an anti-platelet medication used to prevent clots, usually when left atrial enlargement is present
3. Felycin (sirolimus) – a new therapy approved for sub clinical HCM, shown to improve thickening of the left ventricular muscle
4. Diuretics and other interventions as needed for the complication of congestive heart failure

Very caring 😊
The groomers take time with me to talk about my baby girl, Bella.
7 YEARS LATER..,.,We still love this place all my fur babies are Healthy and Happy. Lani just got her annual blood work she just turned 13 years old in May. She always gets a little nervous when we get here but soon as she sees Dr. Neely she’s calm. You can see her smile she just love him. She loves everyone there! From the front desk family to all the family in the back well. At this point everyone at Mid-Cities are apart of our extended family they greet us by name when we walk in. All this to say WE LOVE YOU MID-CITIES FAMILY AND if you’re in the fence about where to take your furbabies look not further they’re PAWS 🐾 UP THE BEST!!
****Updated Review Feb 27, 2024 We’ve now been coming to City Vet Midcities for 5 YEARS! But it’s our whole fur-family! I can’t even begin to say how much WE LOVE THIS PLACE! EVERYONE KNOWS THE FURBABIES BY NAME!! Even when we’re just visiting to grab snacks etc. They’ll address everyone by name and the furbabies love all
Of them the front desk staff, back of the house, groomers, drs EVERYONE! Here they truly treat us like we’re family! If you’re looking for a place that’ll treat your furbabies like your family would look no further!
*** updated review April 4, 2023 we’ve now been coming to CityVet for 4 years and 2 months, it still amazes me on how awesome this place is! Everyone who works there truly does an amazing job. We’ve had to put our furbaby Hulky Boy to sleep in February and let me tell you … there aren’t words to even begin to express our gratitude for all our extended Family over at CityVet -Mid-Cities for your compassion, attentiveness your ability to accommodate us all during this time and the part that touched our hearts the most was the hand written card that you all so thoughtfully took time to stop what y’all were doing to let us know how much y’all loved Hulky too! So thank you from the bottom of our hearts for that, cause Hulky was a huge part of our lives and is greatly missed. 🫶🏾🫶🏾🌈🦮
I’ve been coming to CityVet mid cities since I moved here last February 2019 and from the first time we visited we’ve had nothing but good experiences the vets, techs, groomers, receptionist, everyone that you come into contact with is very pleasant, friendly and very helpful they also love the furbabies which is the greatest part! I love this place and always refer everyone here! If you’re looking for a great vet that truly cares for your furbabies as much as You do this is the place!! Thank you CityVet for loving Chandler, Hulky and LAni Gurl, Mana
My only complaint is that they are too expensive. One office visit with xray was $450.00. There is no way an xray should cost that much.

Everyone we have interacted with has been incredibly friendly, compassionate, patient, and helpful. We have never had even the slightest negative experience with anyone there. You can genuinely tell that the entire staff cares about the animals they treat and about the people who love them.
Most recently, Dr. Fish removed a mass from our older dog, Manzur. Throughout the entire process, she and her team have been wonderful. When I became concerned about how his incision was healing, I sent them pictures and Dr. Fish personally reviewed them and responded quickly with a plan to make sure we stayed ahead of any potential infection. That kind of responsiveness and care gives you tremendous peace of mind when you’re worried about your pet.
What I appreciate most is that we never feel like just another appointment walking through the door. Whether we’re there with Moose or Manzur, we’re treated with kindness and respect, our concerns are taken seriously, and we always feel like our boys are in very capable hands.
Finding a veterinarian and staff that you completely trust with members of your family isn’t something we take for granted. We feel very fortunate to have found Dr. Fish and everyone at CityVet Midtown Atlanta, and I would recommend them without hesitation to anyone looking for a veterinary team that genuinely cares.

Did you know?!
Each nostril samples air independently, letting the brain compare inputs and work out which direction a scent came from.
