Externships can be transformative. See how students from across the country describe their time with us, what they learned, and why they’d recommend the experience to future externs.

CityVet was really good at communicating the expectations of my externship and emailed often. Dr. Fujikawa was an amazing mentor and allowed me to do anything and everything that I felt comfortable doing.

I believe this is a great off-campus elective experience for students who want to go into small animal general practice following graduation. I feel that I got good exposure to the types of cases I will be dealing with and learned how different doctors manage them. I also appreciated being able to experience the urgent care aspect of the practice, as this is a unique and emerging idea within veterinary medicine, and I hope more clinics start to incorporate it into their schedules. I also believe that given CityVet’s model of veterinarian ownership, I thought it was great to get to work alongside the practice owner and see how she balanced practicing medicine while simultaneously running a successful business. As long as you are willing to insert yourself into the action and ask a lot of questions, the team at CityVet Alamo Heights is willing to teach you. They are a great group of people and were very supportive throughout my time there.

Dr. Johnson and Dr. Pribula at CityVet S. Hulen are amazing mentors. They are very knowledgeable about the profession and are more than willing to share that knowledge. They allow you to actually see patients on your own too. Dr. Johnson mentored me about practice ownership and about CityVet as a company. I had the opportunity to see challenging cases and get good at puppy vaccines. I would recommend a visit to this clinic 100%.
